8 Ways to Manage Your Energy

Hi lovely people!

Today I’m writing about managing your energy!

First a little background on energy and its relation to us. We are made of energy; we are energy! Also, if you didn’t know yet, the whole world is made of energy. (If you don’t believe me, click here.) That’s why we must take care of ourselves and be aware of our energy levels, at all times.

What does that mean? I will give an example. All humans and animals have emotions. When we feel sad, angry, or frustrated we are usually in an “energy-depleting” mode, which does nothing but consumes our energy. So that’s why we feel tired and fall straight asleep after crying for a few hours. On the other hand, when we are feeling happy or any positive emotions, it is usually adding to our energy level, and we feel more dynamic and energetic. So, people like to say, “stay happy” or “be happy”, it’s because when you’re in a state of happiness, your energy level is “charging” up, and when we are “charged”, we see everything with clearer perspectives, and simply perform better in our lives.

So how to “charge” your energy battery, and not deplete it? Continue reading to find out! 🙂

I just want to point out before I begin: some things might work for some people, while others might work better for other people. So feel free to pick and choose the methods you resonate to, as long as they work for you!

Charge Your Energy: 8 Ways

Leisure Reading

Reading is such a relaxing activity (of course, when you’re reading non-intense books). Choose a book on your favorite topic, but also something that doesn’t twist your mind and keep you up all night reading. Read before bed, when you’re snuggling in your pajamas; or with a cup of hot, relaxing tea in the afternoon, during your break from work, or school. Reading takes away your intense thoughts from during the day, and thus has a relaxing effect because your mind is no longer tight and anxious from worrying about things.

Listen to Music

Listen to music anytime, preferably calm and relaxing music such as these, spa music music, or yoga music). You can listen to them before sleep, while you read, or during the day when you need some private alone time to relax.

A side note on music listening: make sure it’s not at a high volume. Lots of people, especially  teenagers that like to listen to loud pop songs have some hearing loss already, without them even knowing. At 85 decibels, human ears can listen to music up to 8 hours a day. If you go higher to 88 decibels, listening period will have to reduce to around 4 hours. (learn more here). Hearing is very important, and once it’s lost, it lost forever. So take care of your ears while you take care of your mind!

Meditation(or dhyana) is an essential practice for some religions, such as Buddhism and Hinduism. It calms your brain down, and you shift your focus from anxiety in life, to the truth in life. It can take several practices before one can feel the inner peace of mind through meditation, but it is definitely do-able, and very refreshing and calming at the same time. You could be meditating on a specific event/thought, or simply relaxing your mind to flow, while you observe your thoughts, until there are no thoughts left. Meditation is much wider than what I’ve just talked about, which is only small part. Click here to learn more about meditation, and meditation techniques.

Do Yoga

Yoga is an ancient practice that originated from India, and yogis used it to find inner peace and enlightenment. Nowadays, it’s often treated simply as another way to exercise, but it’s a lot deeper than that. Yoga incorporates mediation, physical postures (asanas) and breathing regulation (pranayama), and focuses on strengthening on one’s life force (prana). Learn more about the origins and concepts of yoga here.

Do Tai Chi

Tai Chi is a type of Wushu (of Chinese martial art) from ancient China.  It has a lot of health benefits and is also a type of active meditation. In Tai Chi, you perform a series of movements that are related to Yin and Yang, and these movements require focus on your body, but at the same time relaxation in the body while performing these movements. It is specifically designed for the body’s Qi to flow smoothly to every body part, or to release the blocked parts of the body and restore the natural flow of Qi, or energy, in the body. This is an efficient way of spending time and boosting every because it relaxes both your body and mind, and also heals physical problems, and strengthen your body! Learn more here.

Eat Less (or no) Junk food

Believe it or not, junk food has a big negative impact on your body. It’s more than just eating, digesting, and coming out. There are lots of artificial flavorings, and toxic chemicals used in the process of making those chips, snacks, and candies. Junk foods require more efforts from the body to digest, and to spit out the toxic ingredients afterwards, and it’s not always possible. It’s a process that does not add any nutrition to your body, but wastes lots of energy. And often times, lots of the toxic ingredients are not even digestible, and they simply stay in your body, messing up your body, and your emotions. You might feel good while you’re eating your favorite chips, but that’s only a short period of time. The impact of junk food stays in your body and continues throughout your whole life; and the happiness vs. the negative impact= not worth it.

Sleep Early

“Sleep earlier, sleep earlier!” Many people have probably heard this a dozen of times from dad and mom. Well, they’re right, and there is reason why. Sleeping early (before 11PM) is especially important to your body, because 11PM-1AM is the crucial period when your body goes through the process of repairing itself. You can sleep later and still have the same hours of sleep, but the body will not fix itself, and it will continue working with the body from the previous day that needs to be fixed or oiled up each day. Imagine a machine not oiled/repaired when it’s supposed to happen; the machine would not work anymore, or even if it did, the machine would be making lots of squeaky noises and then die-off sooner or later. Sleeping early will allow your body to repair itself, and thus you will wake up feeling rejuvenated and ready for the whole day! Treat your body with care and love, and you will receive its blessings too.

Wake Early

This is just as important as sleeping early. Your body is programmed to sleep at night, and to do work and wake up when the Sun is up! You don’t have to wake up at 5 or 6AM when the sun rises, but wake up some time close to that. Our bodies have a hormone called melatonin, and it rises in the evening and stays high throughout our sleep. It regulates our sleep cycles, and it is affected by light. So when we wake up early in the day when the sun is up, our body will know it’s daytime, and the melatonin level will decrease. If we stayed in bed until late in the morning, and without the sun telling us to wake up, our sleep cycle will be confused and that will just result in drowsiness and low-productivity throughout the day. Also, when you wake up early, you have “more time” to complete things, with much higher efficiency! Why not? Laziness is not an excuse.

This is a short list of potential things you can do to be aware and manage your energy everyday, but there is definitely a lot more that can be added to this list. Most of them can be done at any time during the day when you have short breaks, and they have great positive effects to both your body and mind. Remind yourself everyday to be aware of your energy levels, and find peace anytime throughout your day with these simple methods!

I hope this was helpful, and feel free to comment below if you like any of these activities, or have more to add!

Charge up your battery, and be the best you in life! xxxx

DIY Body Oil for Winter!

A tiny bit of background info on this: my mom is super healthy, and she likes everything natural. So I’ve been eating organic food for a great part of my life (ever since my mom started realizing the existence of organic foods), and I’ve switched from fancy beauty products to natural oils for skin care.

I started using coconut oil on my body about two years ago, and it’s been one of my winter moisturizers (and many other things) ever since. The winter is on it’s way here in Massachusetts, and coming from a humid country, the dryness is hitting me hard. Luckily, my dad got me humidifiers to keep me comfortable in my room, and I made some DIY body oils for myself to keep my skin smooth and silky!

I first bought some glass pump bottles so I can fill them for easy access; I’ve been using my oil mix in a little container with a scrolling cap for the past month, and it’s not that convenient, so I bought these glass bottles and they are perfect!

1 part Olive Oil (extra virgin, cold pressed)

3 parts Coconut Oil (or jojoba, grape seed…any carrier oil)

7 drops of Lavender Essential Oil (from here that my mom gave me)

Make it:

A funnel would be handy in this situation, but if you don’t (like me), just roll a piece of paper into a loose cone (so there’s a hole at the tip), and you’ve got a DIY funnel! haha 🙂

Then poured all my ingredients, in the order they’re listed, into the glass bottle with a funnel (or the cone), screw the pump cap on, shake it all up, and you’ve got yourself a calming, moisturizing, and satisfying body oil to survive the winter! 🙂

Just apply after shower, or any time your body feels dry; with dedication, you shall have the soft skin you’ve always wanted, and you can choose to have, right now!

Hope you all liked it! Make sure to let me know how your DIY went by commenting below<3

Have a “chill” winter, with this “warming” DIY moisturizer!

My brother is born…and I cried

This is going to be a short post about my little baby brother who was born at 3:01 AM, October 7th, 2016! I was so happy to see him through FaceTime with my mom and sister, and I could not be more delighted to see the little red and healthy baby lying on my mom’s chest. He looked so content and peaceful; I have a feeling (my uncle said this too) that he is going to be a very wise and calm presence in our lives. I am IN LOVE already! He’s so adorable. And I cried while talking to mom, because I was telling her how amazing that she is giving birth, and still creating new life on Earth, even at her age of 46. And how that relates to the book I’ve been reading for the past few weeks, “Conversations with God” by Neale Donald Walsch. To keep it short, what God has said in the book so far, is basically that we are not on Earth to “learn” things, but to re-member “Who We Are”, to experience who we are, and to create our lives in order to experience that. And the fact that my mom is still giving birth clearly shows her dedication to creation! So I didn’t exactly cry because of my little bro (he is crazy adorable though), but it was because I feel so touched in my heart that my mom is so marvelous and enjoys creating so much, and also that God has given us the wonderful gift to be able to create new life, and that I have that in me too. This is simply beautiful. ❤

Wish you love and laughter,

Some Happiness, Some Fun: Introduction to my blog and myself :)

Hello everyone! I’m so excited to be starting my first blog!

Who I am:

I am Josephine, a current freshman in college. I  am a taurus, I have sister and a brother, actually, two brothers, because right now, my second brother is on his way to this world, and I’m so excited 😀  I love all knowledge about spiritual philosophies and ideas, how they integrate into (and are a part) of our lives, and the re-membering of who we are.

What my blog is about:

My blog will be covering a wide variety of thing, but mainly focusing on mental and physical well-being that relate to spiritual and theological ideas, as well as holistic health lifestyles that are sustainable and eco-friendly.

Birth to my blog, and birth of my brother!

Well, here I am, writing my first blog post in the middle of the night, on my comfy bed. What is so special about today? Why am I starting my blog right now, instead of sleeping? I have a perfectly good reason for that, and I shall proceed to that…right…now. 🙂

While I am away in college right now, my mom is giving birth to my second brother, Finn Lee! I am still awake because I am so excited to have a new brother, and I want to stay awake until he has arrived. I really hope that I can be next to my mom right now, and although I cannot be physically with her, I am with her in spirit for sure. She has been waiting for him over 14 hours now! And it’s her longest wait because it only took her around 2 hours for my sister, brother, and I to be born. But considering my mom’s age, at 46, she is doing very well, because her whole pregnancy was super smooth and it was like nothing except her stomach is big (lol). Anyways, I have already sent some loving energy and mantras over to my mom and my coming brother for the past one hour in my meditation, and I suddenly decided to document the amazing feeling of waiting for a new life to be born!

I am feeling so blessed and excited to be able to take part in this process of giving birth to new life. I can feel this new little blob of energy arriving on Earth, to join my family and I. It’s such an exciting feeling! I was excited for my first brother (who is also the artist of my featured picture :D) when he joined us, but I was younger and felt differently as a child. Now I’m feeling so wonderful and happy, not only because I’m having a new brother, but also because it’s simply a joyful, and also sacred thing that humans (and all other animals) have the ability to reproduce, create, and give birth to new life! It’s so amazingly beautiful, the fact that we are given the gift of creating new life on Earth. It’s just so wonderful! This is how I’ve been feeling the whole day! The energy of new life, and creation, is simply so delightful to be experiencing and feeling, and I just felt like sharing this happiness with all of my friends and the world- and that is why I have decided to start this blog, today, and right now. A new life, and a new blog- it feel so wonderful!

My mom is giving birth to my brother naturally, at home, with a midwife, her boyfriend, and people who love her and the baby. I am so glad that she is in a safe and loving space when giving birth. Because originally, humans gave birth out in the woods, in nature; in the wombs of Mother Nature, humans gave birth to new life. She is in the water right now as I’m typing (my sister has been updating me and I have been keeping contact with them through FaceTime), and I am simply marveling the fact that mom is giving birth; even after feeling so for the whole day already. I might write a post dedicated to natural birth later on.

This also reminds me of when I was in middle school and loathed being a girl, because that entails having periods every month. I also remember always envying the guys because they don’t have periods. I’m feeling very contrary to that right now though! I feel so blessed to be a woman, because that means I get to be not only involved in the creation of new life, but also actually welcome new life on to Earth! Women have the great job to bring new lives and human beings on to Earth, and to nurture and provide a loving space for the new borns. No body else can do that, other than women! Because of this, I now embrace my periods every month, because I know that I have a scared job to perform, and that is the creation and welcoming of new life, which is a beautiful ceremony.

And thank you all for bearing through my first blog post! 🙂
